Rising Organ Harvesting Scandal in Nigeria Exposed

Samuel Ezekiel alleged that his friend Emmanuel Odeh tricked him into undergoing kidney removal at Wellington Hospital in Life Camp, Abuja. This claim arose during the police parade of suspects linked to an organ-harvesting syndicate operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State.

The police have arrested several suspects, including two medical doctors and alleged recruiters, for their involvement in this network that exploits vulnerable young individuals. The illegal organ trade has become lucrative, prompting some Nigerians to sell their organs out of desperation, risking their health.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has been raising alarms about the rise in organ harvesting. The article emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts among local agencies, state governments, and international partners to combat this growing menace, which includes recruiting young people under false pretenses and the illegal sale of human organs.
