Nigerian Military Forces 406 Terrorists to Surrender

Sustained military pressure in Nigeria has resulted in the surrender of 406 terrorist fighters and their families, alongside the rescue of 1,736 kidnapped hostages during the third quarter of 2026. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported that troops killed 554 terrorists/criminals and arrested 1,333 individuals during this period.
Major General Michael Onoja, Director Defence Media Operations, provided details indicating that 367 attacks occurred across various operational theatres. In September, troops neutralised 52 terrorists/criminals, arrested 350, and rescued 655 civilians.
The military also dismantled eight illegal refining sites and recovered over 304,822 litres of stolen petroleum products. The operations demonstrated the Armed Forces of Nigeria's capacity to address security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and oil theft.
The breakdown of attacks included various operations, with Operation FANSAN YAMMA recording the highest number at 115 attacks. The military's decisive response to these incidents has significantly degraded the operational capacity of criminal and terrorist groups nationwide.
