Nigerian Medical Student Killed by Russian Strike in Ukraine

Adaobi Marian Nnani, a 23-year-old final year medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University, died from injuries sustained during a Russian aerial strike in Kharkiv on June 29, 2026. She was due to graduate shortly after the attack.

Adaobi was initially treated in Kharkiv before being transferred to Germany for specialized care, but despite the efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries. Her close friend, Fatima Huseynova, who was with her during the attack, also lost her life.

The university confirmed Adaobi's death and expressed condolences, describing her as an outstanding student who excelled academically and was dedicated to her profession. She had enrolled in the medical school in 2020 and was recognized for her impressive academic performance and commitment to improving the lives of others.
