NHRC and SOSCVN Launch Child Ombudsman Office in Abuja

On Wednesday, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria (SOSCVN) and development partners, inaugurated the Child and Youth Ombudsman Office in Abuja. This initiative, funded by the European Union (EU), aims to strengthen Nigeria's child protection system by providing a child-friendly platform for faster access to justice for children affected by abuse, exploitation, and trafficking.

The office will facilitate safe reporting of abuse and ensure prompt referrals and coordinated interventions. Mrs.

Victoria Akoji Omale, representing SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria, emphasized that the initiative extends beyond merely establishing an office; it focuses on building stronger systems for effective child protection. The initiative includes a Child and Youth Helpline, providing a confidential platform for children to report rights violations.

Omale stated that effective child protection requires strong institutions, accountable systems, and accessible services for timely support.
