Sheikh Jingir Defends Muslim-Muslim Ticket Advocacy

Sheikh Muhammad Jingir, the Chairman of the Ulama Council of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah, expressed no regrets regarding his support for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket. In an interview with the BBC, Jingir stated that he has advocated for this position long before President Bola Tinubu's administration.

His comments came during a wedding reception organized by the Kano State Government for 1,500 couples. Jingir urged Muslims to vote in a way that reflects their population and clarified that his support extends beyond Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

He emphasized that he promotes Islam rather than any individual politician. Jingir acknowledged that his views might attract criticism but insisted on the right to advise Muslims on their voting rights.

He reiterated the religious principle of Muslim brotherhood and stated he has evidence to support his position. His advocacy has sparked reactions, including from the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, as Nigeria navigates the implications of its first Muslim-Muslim leadership since 1999.
