Nasarawa Governor Advocates for Christian-Christian Ticket

Abdullahi Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State, stated his desire for Nigeria to eventually have an all-Christian presidential ticket that could win elections. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he addressed concerns from Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, regarding the implications of a same-faith presidential ticket in 2027.

Sule dismissed claims that the APC's Muslim-Muslim ticket represented religious exclusion, arguing that Nigeria is overdue for a Christian-Christian pairing to test electoral success. He referenced past victories of Muslim-Muslim tickets, including that of Chief Moshood Abiola in the 1993 election.

Sule also mentioned that it is expected for opposition members like Kwankwaso to raise concerns about the APC's arrangements. He cited Section 14(3) of the Nigerian constitution, which emphasizes inclusiveness and representation, noting that it does not specifically address religion.

Sule confirmed that his deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, is Christian, and stated that his choice was based on competence rather than religious considerations.
