Kenneth Okonkwo Changes Stance on Peter Obi's Debt Claims

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former spokesman for Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, has publicly reversed his earlier defense of Obi concerning claims of financial obligations left after his governorship. During an appearance on Television Continental’s Sunday Politics, Okonkwo stated he was misled in his previous assertions that Obi did not leave behind debts, unpaid salaries, or pensions.

He cited recent disclosures from the Anambra State Government, which indicated that Obi's administration took eight loans and left salary arrears for workers at the state-owned water corporation. Okonkwo acknowledged that he could no longer maintain his previous stance, stating, “I cannot say the same thing that I said about Peter Obi in 2023.” Additionally, he mentioned that his scrutiny of Obi would change as he prepares to support Atiku Abubakar, the ADC's candidate for the 2027 election, indicating a shift from a supportive role to a more critical one.
