Ibom Air Denies Monopoly Claims at Uyo Airport

Ibom Air has refuted claims of operating a monopoly at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, stating it does not prevent other airlines from operating there. The airline clarified that it lacks the regulatory power to determine which carriers can operate from the airport, as this authority lies with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, per Section 8(3) of the Civil Aviation Act 2022.

Amid concerns about limited competition affecting fares and flight options, Ibom Air explained that its operational decisions, such as suspending flights to certain destinations for maintenance, should not be misconstrued as monopolistic behavior. The airline expressed its openness to increased competition, highlighting that more airlines could enhance travel options and benefits for passengers in the Akwa Ibom region.

Ibom Air reiterated that being the home-based carrier does not equate to ownership or control of the airport, nor does it grant the power to restrict other airlines' operations.
