Aviation Union Warns of Disruption Amid Police Invitation

The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) has issued a warning about possible industrial action that could disrupt air operations nationwide if its officials are detained by the police for an extended period. This warning follows a police invitation related to complaints from Air Peace regarding a picketing action that occurred on August 11, 2026.

The invitation, signed by ATSSSAN Secretary Frances Akinjole, cites allegations including conspiracy, threatening violence, and inciting public disturbance. The union is scheduled to appear before the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja at 11 am on September 2, 2026, and plans to bring a sizable number of its members to ensure their perspective is presented.

ATSSSAN expressed that if its officials are held longer than necessary, it may jeopardize the continuation of air operations across the country. The situation escalates the ongoing dispute between aviation unions and Air Peace, which has not yet responded to requests for comment.
