Ex-Minister Nnaji Arrested for Certificate Forgery

Geoffrei Uchechukwu Nnaji, the former Minister of Science and Technology, was arrested on July 1, 2026, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. His arrest was executed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following a court order from the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Nnaji is accused of offenses related to alleged certificate forgery, specifically concerning his degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate submitted during the ministerial screening process in 2023. The ICPC, represented by its spokesperson John Okor Odei, confirmed the arrest and stated that Nnaji had failed to respond to multiple invitations for an investigative interview.

The court order granting the ICPC the authority to arrest Nnaji was issued on June 11, 2026, as part of ongoing investigations into the allegations against him. Following his arrest, Nnaji was taken into custody at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, where investigations are expected to continue.
