Kebbi Governor Declares Annual Mass Wedding Event

On Monday, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State issued an Executive Order declaring mass weddings as an annual event in the state. This announcement was made during the third edition of a mass wedding held at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, where 300 couples, totaling 600 grooms and brides, were joined in wedlock.

The Kebbi State government provided financial support by paying a dowry of N250,000 to each couple, amounting to a total of N75 million. Governor Idris served as the Waliy (Guardian) for the brides, while the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, acted as the Wakil (Representative) for the grooms.

Idris noted that the initiative, which was initiated by his wife, Nafisa, aims to support less privileged individuals in starting families and has been a morale booster for society. He confirmed that the mass wedding event will continue annually and expressed gratitude to his wives for their support.
