Nigeria Needs Accurate Measurement for Global Competitiveness

During the 2026 World Metrology Day celebration in Abuja, Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, the Director General and Chief Executive of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, declared that Nigeria's quest for sustainable industrialization and global competitiveness is unrealistic without strict adherence to international measurement standards.

He emphasized that accurate measurement systems are not merely technical necessities but strategic economic tools that drive innovation, attract investment, and strengthen consumer confidence in Nigerian products and services. Okeke warned that without reliable measurement systems, Nigeria struggles to position its products competitively in regional and global markets.

He noted that measurement influences various economic sectors, including fuel dispensing, food safety, healthcare diagnostics, and manufacturing. Yahuza Inuwa, Chairman of the Standard Council, reiterated that Nigeria's industrial transformation requires compliance with international standards and that accurate measurement systems are essential for delivering measurable outcomes across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and telecommunications.
