IG Orders Nationwide Arms Audit After Delta Incident

Following a viral video showing police officers shooting a restrained man in Delta State, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has mandated an immediate nationwide audit of arms and ammunition across state commands. This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen accountability and prevent the misuse of operational assets.

Disu directed the Police Commission to conduct a comprehensive and transparent stocktaking exercise, with detailed reports to be submitted to police headquarters within a stipulated timeframe. He emphasized that this is not a routine administrative task but a critical measure to enhance readiness and ensure proper accountability of assets entrusted to the force.

Disu condemned the incident as an unlawful violation of professional standards and human life, stating that the officers involved have been dismissed and the case will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further action. Additionally, Disu plans to convene regular town hall meetings with community leaders to foster genuine partnerships and improve communication between the police and citizens.
