Igbo Community Commends Ondo Police for Bias Response

Members of the Igbo community in Ondo State, represented by the Non-Indigenes Assembly, visited Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu at the State Police Headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, following a viral video that showed police officers making ethnically insensitive remarks during a stop-and-search operation on the Lagos–Benin Expressway. The video depicted a confrontation between the officers and a motorist, a UK returnee, who accused them of extortion and ethnic profiling.

One officer allegedly stated that the driver would have been detained if he were Igbo, leading to public outrage. The Ondo State Police Command subsequently arrested four officers involved.

During the visit, led by President Okita Onahi and Secretary Uche Anthony, the delegation praised the police for their swift investigation and disciplinary actions, expressing confidence in the command's commitment to professionalism and justice. Ohagwu thanked the delegation for their visit and reaffirmed the police's dedication to fairness and the protection of residents' rights.
