Ondo Police Arrest Officers Over Ethnic Bias Video

The Ondo State Police Command arrested four officers following public outrage over a viral video showing them making unprofessional and ethnically insensitive remarks during a stop-and-search operation on the Lagos–Benin Expressway. The officers, identified as ASP Elomore Sodayo, Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi, and Inspector Odusola Peter, were involved in a confrontation with a motorist, a United Kingdom returnee, who accused them of intimidation and ethnic profiling.

One officer suggested that the motorist would have been detained if he belonged to the Igbo tribe. The incident sparked widespread condemnation on social media, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, to order an investigation into the matter.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abayomi Jimoh stated that the officers would face appropriate disciplinary action if found culpable, emphasizing that the Nigeria Police Force does not tolerate misconduct or actions undermining public confidence.
