ICAN Joins CIA Challenge Exam Pathway by IIA Global

IIA Global has officially admitted the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Challenge Exam pathway, effective March 1, 2026. This development is historic as it marks the first time a Nigerian professional accounting body has received formal approval from IIA Global for this pathway.

ICAN members will now have access to the CIA Challenge Exam, which is designed for accounting professionals seeking global recognition through the CIA designation. Traditionally, obtaining this designation required passing a three-part examination.

Don Umeha, Chief Executive Officer of IIA Nigeria, stated that candidates who successfully complete the consolidated examination will earn the CIA designation. This recognition is expected to enhance Nigeria's capacity in internal auditing and risk management, improving global competitiveness and strengthening the country's accounting standards.

Nigeria joins a select group of countries whose professional bodies are recognized under the CIA Challenge framework, reinforcing its commitment to international best practices in transparency and accountability.
