Abiodun Praises Gbenga Daniel Amid Political Tensions

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun publicly praised former governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, during the burial service of Mrs. Sabainah Opawole on a recent Friday at Ibara Baptist Church, Abeokuta. Abiodun expressed high regard for Daniel, stating he is closely following in his footsteps despite their recent political disagreements.

This acknowledgment follows a prolonged conflict over the Ogun East Senatorial District ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election, where Abiodun was adopted as the consensus candidate. Daniel opposed this arrangement, demanding an open primary before ultimately withdrawing from the race, citing intimidation and security concerns.

The APC primary resulted in Abiodun securing 75,550 votes, while Daniel, who had withdrawn, received 398 votes. The burial service was marked by political tension as supporters of PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu and Senator Solomon Adeola chanted in support of their respective 2027 ambitions, which was addressed by Daniel to maintain order.
