Imadu Confident in Mbata, Oraekwe for Commonwealth Games

Omonlei Imadu, the vice president of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, has expressed optimism that boxers Patricia Mbata and Blessing Oraekwe can still win medals for Team Nigeria at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. This confidence comes after four Nigerian boxers were eliminated from the competition, including Ajishola Kadijat, who lost to Wales' Helen Jones in a close 3-2 split decision in the women's 54kg Round of 16.

Earlier, Ayomide Foly Hassan and Abdulramon Abdulwahab were eliminated on Friday, and David Akintola on Saturday, marking a challenging start for Nigeria's boxing team. Imadu praised the eliminated boxers for their efforts and highlighted the valuable experience gained during the competition.

With four out of six boxers already out, the focus now shifts to Mbata, who is set to compete against England's Mary Smith in the women's 75kg quarter-final, and Oraekwe, who will face Australia's Lekeisha Pergoliti in the women's 70kg quarter-final.
