Police Shift Focus in Imo Monarch's Murder Investigation

The investigation into the murder of Eze Paulinus Ezekureme, the traditional ruler of Ochia Autonomous Community in Imo State, has taken a significant turn. Initially believed to be the work of "unknown gunmen," police now suspect a conspiracy involving local individuals.

On April 10, 2026, Eze Ezekureme and five cabinet members were ambushed while traveling in a Toyota Sequoia, resulting in their deaths when gunmen opened fire and set the vehicle ablaze. Following a report by the monarch's younger brother, detectives from the Force Intelligence Department's Special Tactical Squad (STS) began reconstructing the victims' movements and interviewing witnesses.

The investigation led to the arrest of Nze Ezekwe David Destiny, the immediate past President-General of the community, along with local vigilantes Martinis Amadi and Lucky Azuodi, for allegedly leaking information about the monarch's movements. Additional suspects, including Fidelis Eluma and a wanted individual known as Dioka Elumah, are also under investigation.

Forensic examinations of mobile phones and financial records are part of the ongoing inquiry.
