Police Make Breakthrough in Imo Monarch Murder Case

The Nigeria Police Force reported a major breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of HRH Eze Barrister Paulinus Ekwueme, the Ochia I of Ochia Kingdom, and five others, which occurred on 10th April 2026 in Ohaji/Egbema, Imo State. A statement from CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, detailed that operatives from the Special Tactics Squad, Force Intelligence Department, conducted operations from 2nd to 6th August 2026, targeting members of the criminal syndicate linked to the murders.

On 6th August 2026, police located the hideout of a suspected gang kingpin, Ojiogu Elumah Martin, alias ‘Acid’. During the encounter, Martin engaged the operatives in a gun duel, resulting in his death.

Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and 56 rounds of live ammunition from the scene. Four suspects had previously been arrested, and two others died in earlier police encounters.

The police are intensifying efforts to apprehend remaining members of the syndicate and ensure justice.
