Police Kill Bandit Kingpin Linked to Imo Monarch's Murder

On April 10, 2026, a gun battle in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, Imo State, resulted in the death of a bandit kingpin known as "Acid." This operation was directed by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, following the murder of Eze Paulinus Ekwueme, the Ochia monarch. Ekwueme was attacked while returning from a meeting, and five others were injured in the incident.

The police identified Acid as the leader of a criminal group responsible for the attack and several violent crimes in the region from 2024 to 2026. During the operation, Acid opened fire on police operatives, prompting a return of fire that led to his death.

Police spokesman Anietie Iniedu confirmed the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and 56 rounds of ammunition. Other gang members escaped, and investigations continue into the group's activities, including the murder of Emeka Ebere Nwaele, allegedly killed by Acid for suspected betrayal.
