ASUU-IMSU Continues Strike Over 2025 Agreement Issues

The Imo State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared its intention to sustain the ongoing strike, which began on August 10, 2026. The union demands the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and resolution of outstanding welfare issues affecting its members.
ASUU-IMSU chairperson, Comrade Stephen Oguji, stated that despite multiple engagements with the university management and the Governing Council, their demands remain unmet. The union has sent seven letters to the university management, held two meetings with the administration, and engaged with the Governing Council's ASUU subcommittee on October 20 and 22, all without satisfactory resolutions.
Oguji emphasized that the strike would not be suspended without concrete commitments. The union accused the university management of failing to address the dispute and claimed that some members faced threats and illegal examinations were conducted during the strike.
ASUU-IMSU outlined conditions for considering the suspension of the strike, including salary payments and the cancellation of unauthorized examinations.
