Mbaishii Youths Condemn Police Harassment in Imo State

Youths from Mbaishii communities in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State have condemned alleged unlawful arrests, assaults, and harassment by the Imo State Police Command. In a statement signed by Kelechi Onyeike, PhD, President of Mbaishii Youths Association, and Secretary Osinachi Okere, they expressed concern over the treatment of community members and disrespect towards their traditional institution.

They specifically condemned the arrest of HRH Eze Hyacinth Nwamadi, Nma II of Eziama Ancient Kingdom, related to a land dispute petition. Additionally, they reported the arrest of a young man named Chikezie shortly after his wedding on August 16, 2026, alleging he was assaulted and detained alongside a minor.

The youths claimed police fired shots into the air during their operation, causing panic. They linked the arrests to a petition regarding the destruction of a fence at Evangelist Ebuka Obi’s Zion Ministry site and urged for dialogue to resolve the dispute.

They demanded the immediate release of those unlawfully detained, warning that continued hostilities could escalate the situation.
