Imo State Government Supports Anti-GBV Campaigns

On a Wednesday, Hope Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo State, reaffirmed his administration's commitment to promoting women's welfare and empowerment programs. This pledge was made during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigeria Governor Spouses Forum (NGSF) and representatives from the Ford Foundation at the Government House in Owerri.

Uzodimma emphasized the government's ongoing support for initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women and families across the state. He welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the critical role women play in national development.

The governor also expressed support for campaigns aimed at eradicating gender-based violence (GBV) in the country, including sexual violence, highlighting the need for strong partnerships with government development agencies, donor organizations, and community-based groups. Barr Chioma Uzodimma, the leader of the delegation and wife of the governor, called for stronger political commitment to prevent sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), identifying it as a significant obstacle to good governance and economic growth.
