Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams, indicted in late 2024 on multiple counts including bribery and wire fraud, visited Nigeria and met with former Osun State Deputy Governor Senator Iyiola Omisore in Abuja. Adams, who became the 111th mayor of New York City after a career as a police officer, faced legal challenges that led to his resignation.

During his visit, Adams engaged in discussions with Betta Edu, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, focusing on enhancing Nigeria-US cooperation in security, healthcare, and economic development. Edu presented Adams with local souvenirs and emphasized the need for sustained international partnerships to address Nigeria's economic challenges.

The visit highlighted Adams' efforts to mobilize investments and support from the Nigerian diaspora for development initiatives in Nigeria.
