INEC Chair Prof Amupitan Seeks Monarchs' Support in Osun

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, Prof Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), visited the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to seek the support of traditional rulers in Osun State ahead of the governorship election. Accompanied by Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola, Amupitan described the upcoming election as a significant off-cycle election that would reflect on the 2027 general elections.

He expressed concerns regarding the security situation in the state and appealed to the monarchs to influence political actors to ensure a peaceful election. Amupitan emphasized that a successful election is one that is peaceful, timely, and transparent.

He also assured that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be utilized to ensure that every vote counts, stating that votes not accredited by BVAS would not be counted.
