INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced an extension of the deadline for the submission of candidate lists for the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for February 2027. This decision was communicated by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, in a statement released on Saturday night.

The original deadline for submissions was set for Saturday, August 8, 2026, but has now been moved to Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The extension was granted in response to numerous appeals from political parties seeking additional time to finalize their candidate lists.

This adjustment is part of the revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the General Election.
