Arewa Youth Forum Backs INEC Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Arewa Youth Forum, representing youth organizations across 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), publicly supported Professor Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement signed by the forum's President, Ahm Moham Zagi, they called on opposition parties and civil society to stop their campaign of calumny against INEC.

The forum praised Amupitan's commitment to upholding Nigeria's electoral integrity and highlighted his successful leadership in conducting the Anambra State governorship election. They noted that the upcoming elections, including the FCT area council elections in February 2026 and the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, would serve as a litmus test for the 2027 general elections.

The forum commended INEC's initiatives to strengthen operations, including the bimodal voter accreditation system and the recruitment of ad hoc staff. They urged all stakeholders to engage constructively with INEC to ensure a transparent electoral process and to empower every eligible voter.
