INEC and NOA Join Forces to Combat Voter Apathy

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is partnering with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to address voter apathy in Nigeria as the 2027 general elections approach. INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan made this announcement during a courtesy visit from NOA Director General Lanre Issa-Onilu at INEC's headquarters in Abuja.

Amupitan stressed the importance of educating Nigerians about the democratic process and the significance of voter participation. He highlighted recent technological improvements in the electoral process, including the use of biometric voter accreditation systems.

However, he noted persistent issues of voter apathy and confusion among voters regarding polling units and registration. Amupitan called for the development of grassroots voter education campaigns that explain not only when to vote but also why voting is crucial.

He urged both agencies to collaborate in combating misinformation that undermines electoral integrity, especially as the presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, and the governorship election for February 6, 2027.
