Minister Urges Ethical Journalism Among Young Bloggers

On Monday, during the Niger State Bloggers, Online Publishers and Content Developers Forum in Abuja, Mohammed Idris, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, called on young bloggers, online content creators, and digital influencers to embrace ethical journalism and responsible storytelling. He stated that digital platforms provide significant opportunities for innovation and civic engagement but must be utilized to promote truth, national unity, and constructive public discourse.

Idris emphasized that democracy cannot thrive without a responsible media, urging content creators to verify information, reject misinformation, and avoid sensationalism. He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to protecting press freedom while promoting ethical journalism.

Additionally, Idris highlighted the establishment of the International Media and Information Literacy Institute (IMILI), the first UNESCO Category 2 Institute focused on Media and Information Literacy, as a crucial step in enhancing digital literacy. He encouraged aspiring bloggers to develop their skills and uphold professional standards to strengthen Nigeria’s online media ecosystem.
