Idris Urges Ethical Journalism Among Young Content Creators

On Tuesday, at the Niger State Bloggers, Online Publishers and Content Developers Forum held in Abuja, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, called on young bloggers, online content creators, and digital influencers to embrace ethical journalism and responsible storytelling. He stated that digital platforms present significant opportunities for innovation and civic engagement but must be utilized responsibly to promote truth, national unity, and constructive public discourse.

Idris emphasized that democracy cannot thrive without a responsible media, stating, “You cannot carry freedom and abandon responsibility.” He affirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to protecting press freedom while encouraging ethical journalism. Idris urged content creators to verify information, reject misinformation, avoid sensationalism, and use their platforms to educate and inspire.

He encouraged young Nigerians to view digital content creation as both a source of income and a tool for civic engagement and nation-building, highlighting that ethical communication is vital for strengthening democracy and public trust.
