Afenifere Praises Tinubu's 5-Year Security Strategy

Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for directing the formulation of a five-year strategic security and defence plan aimed at improving Nigeria's response to insecurity. The commendation was made in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, in Ibadan on Friday.

Afenifere welcomed the President's directive for a comprehensive National Threat Assessment and a rolling five-year Strategic Defence Operations Plan to be developed within 90 days. The organization believes this initiative will enhance coordination among Nigeria's defence, intelligence, and security agencies.

Afenifere called for a combination of military action, tighter border controls, and effective community policing to tackle banditry and insecurity. It also urged the government to address the economic factors driving kidnapping and to impose stringent sanctions on those convicted of banditry.

The group expressed concern over attacks on farmers across the South-West, which have discouraged investment and threatened agricultural productivity.
