Coalition Backs Tinubu's 90-Day Security Initiative

The Coalition of Patriots for Security Sector Reforms (CPSSR) expressed support for President Bola Tinubu's directive to prepare a National Threat Assessment and a five-year Strategic Defence Operations Plan within 90 days. This initiative, announced on August 24, aims to address gaps in Nigeria's security architecture.

An 11-member committee has been established to produce these documents, with Major General Adeyinka Famadewa (Rtd), the President's Special Adviser on Homeland Security, appointed as coordinator. Famadewa, who has over three decades of experience in national security strategy and counter-terrorism, was noted for previously outlining key homeland security priorities.

CPSSR emphasized that the initiative would not duplicate existing strategies but rather clarify connections among current policies and resources. The coalition also highlighted the importance of linking the plan to a multi-year defence expenditure framework to ensure effective resource allocation.

The success of the initiative will ultimately depend on its implementation.
