Emir Argungu Urges Nigerians to Arm for Self-Defense

During a security meeting held at the palace in Argungu, Emir Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, addressed the escalating insecurity in Kebbi State, urging residents to "buy arms and defend yourselves against bandits." He expressed deep concern over the overwhelming presence of armed groups in the region and the inability of national security agencies to be everywhere at once. The Emir advised communities to explore legal avenues to acquire firearms and build internal defense systems.

He criticized the passive response of rural communities during bandit attacks, which often leads to panic and chaos. The Emir clarified that his call for self-defense should not be misinterpreted as an endorsement of anarchy or extrajudicial violence, cautioning against retaliatory strikes and emphasizing that any self-defense efforts must be coordinated within legal frameworks and in partnership with official security agencies.
