NCCSALW, NYSC Join Forces Against Illicit Arms in Nigeria

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), operating under the Office of the National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has strengthened its partnership with the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) to address insecurity and the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons in Nigeria. At the NYSC Orientation camp in Bauchi on Friday, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd), the Northeast Zonal Director of NCCSALW, highlighted the importance of corps members in advocating for an arms-free society.

He noted that previous collaborations in Borno and Yobe had shown positive outcomes. Adamu urged corps members to actively participate in curbing the spread of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and emphasized the dangers these weapons pose, including fueling banditry and insurgency.

He called for the establishment of a Small Arms and Light Weapons Community Development Service (CDS) group in Northeast states, similar to the one in Borno, and encouraged parents to educate their children on peaceful coexistence.
