Retired Military Personnel Collaborate to Combat Illicit Arms

Retired Members of the Nigerian Armed Forces (REMENAF), Borno State Chapter, have committed to working with the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) to address insurgency and the spread of illicit small arms in the North-East. This collaboration was announced during a courtesy visit to the NCCSALW office in Maiduguri on Thursday, led by Lieutenant Commander Bukar Kyari Aji (Rtd), the Chairman of REMENAF.

Aji emphasized their role in providing intelligence to help eradicate illicit arms. Maj-Gen Abubakar Adamu (Rtd), the North-East Zonal Director of NCCSALW, welcomed the partnership, highlighting the importance of intelligence sharing in combating the proliferation of small arms.

He noted the detrimental effects of illicit arms on peace and socio-economic activities in Nigeria. Adamu also mentioned that the NCCSALW is responsible for mopping up and destroying illicit arms and prosecuting gun runners.
