Reps Advocate for National Drone Industrialisation Policy

On Wednesday, members of the House of Representatives in Nigeria called on the Federal Government to provide structured capital support to verified Nigerian drone manufacturing companies, including Beirech UAS, Terra Industries, Elites Group, Pro-force, and AFIT. This initiative aims to enable these companies to scale operations and meet military procurement standards.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Ademorin Kuye, who expressed concerns over ongoing security threats such as terrorism, banditry, and insurgency, which challenge the operational capacity of Nigeria’s Armed Forces.

Hon. Kuye highlighted the importance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in modern warfare and noted that non-state armed groups are already using drones against Nigerian troops.

The House mandated the joint Committees on Defence, National Security and Intelligence, Science and Technology, Industry and Commerce to develop a National Drone Industrialisation Policy to grow Nigeria’s drone manufacturing sector. Additionally, the Committees were tasked with formalizing technology transfer agreements with international drone manufacturers to train Nigerian engineers and localize production.
