SDP Condemns Ransom Payments to Terrorists in Nigeria

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) issued a statement on Tuesday condemning the payment of ransom to terrorists in Nigeria, asserting that such payments only embolden these criminals to continue their violent acts with impunity. The party expressed deep concern over the current state of insecurity in Nigeria, where citizens face daily threats from bandits, including kidnappings, killings, and sexual violence.

They noted that human life has become distressingly cheap, with rampant violations of rights and safety. The SDP highlighted the dire situation along major highways, particularly the Abuja-Kaduna route, which has become a death trap for travelers.

They also pointed out the devastation faced by farmers and communities across the country due to attacks from armed groups. The party emphasized that the persistence of these atrocities is not due to a lack of capacity to secure the land but rather a lack of political will to address the issues effectively.
