Afenifere Condemns Rising Terrorism in Southwestern Nigeria

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, condemned the escalating wave of terrorist attacks in Southwestern Nigeria, urging federal and state authorities to intensify efforts to rescue the region from banditry. Jare Ajayi, the group's spokesperson, highlighted the alarming frequency of attacks on human life across multiple states, noting the barbaric treatment of kidnap victims.

He recounted various incidents, including attacks on churches, police stations, and homes, particularly in Ondo State, where a husband was shot while trying to prevent his wife's abduction. Ajayi revealed that kidnappers have demanded ransoms of N1.5 million, drugs like Indian hemp and cocaine, and even asked for virgins in exchange for hostages.

He emphasized that homes are no longer safe and called for decisive action to cut off funding sources for bandits. Afenifere commended President Bola Tinubu's determination to advance state policing and urged governors in the Southwest to implement measures to raid bandit hideouts and maintain constant surveillance in vulnerable areas.
