Intelligence-Led Operations Vital for Nigeria's Security

During a lecture at the National Defence College in Abuja on July 3, 2026, Air Marshal S. K.

Anek, the Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force, underscored the critical role of intelligence-led operations in combating Nigeria's complex security challenges. He noted that the security landscape has evolved beyond conventional warfare, with threats from terrorist groups, bandits, separatists, and transnational criminal networks.

Anek stressed the need for a coordinated military effort and inter-agency collaboration to effectively respond to these threats. He described air power as a strategic enabler for national security, providing speed, reach, precision, and flexibility in intelligence gathering and rapid deployment of forces.

Anek also identified emerging challenges such as cyber threats and the proliferation of unmanned aerial systems, which require a unified operational picture and strategic communication to enhance cyber resilience. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force's commitment to advancing its capabilities through indigenous innovation and strategic partnerships to support national security and regional stability.
