Iraq's Coach Requests Delay for World Cup Play-off Match

Iraq's head coach Graham Arnold has called for the postponement of the country's World Cup play-off match scheduled for later this month, citing travel disruptions due to the escalating US-Israeli conflict and tensions with Iran. The match is set for March 31, where Iraq will face either Bolivia or Surinam, with the winner securing a place in the 2026 World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada starting June 11.

Arnold expressed concerns that the ongoing conflict could hinder the travel of players and staff, especially since Iraqi airspace was closed on February 28 following US-Israeli strikes. He emphasized the importance of assembling the strongest squad for this significant match, which represents Iraq's first World Cup qualification attempt in 40 years.

Arnold noted that the situation requires urgent decisions to ensure proper preparation, while Iraqi Football Federation president Adnan Dirjal is working diligently to facilitate the team's preparations.
