Ireland Exempts Refugees from Citizenship Certificate Fees

The Irish Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) has confirmed that recognized refugees and stateless persons are the only category of foreign nationals exempt from paying the citizenship certificate fee when obtaining Irish citizenship through naturalisation. Most applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee of €175, regardless of the outcome of their application.

Upon approval and invitation to a citizenship ceremony, a separate certification fee is required, which varies based on circumstances: adults pay €950, while minors and widows, widowers, or surviving civil partners of Irish citizens pay €200. Attendance at the citizenship ceremony is mandatory for successful applicants aged 18 and above, where they take an oath of fidelity.

After the ceremony, the certificate of naturalisation is mailed, allowing recipients to apply for an Irish passport. The ISD typically processes applications within 12 months, and additional documentation may be requested from applicants.
