Israel and Somaliland Strengthen Diplomatic Relations

On a notable diplomatic occasion, Israeli President Isaac Herzog welcomed Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamud Abdillahi in Jerusalem, marking a significant step in the relationship between the two governments. This meeting underscored Israel's recognition of Somaliland as an independent state, acknowledging the political realities that have existed for decades.

Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991, operates with its own government, security institutions, and administrative structures but has received limited international recognition.
