VeryDarkMan Defends NBA Conference Invitation Against Falana

VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, responded to criticisms from human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, regarding his invitation to speak at the Nigerian Bar Association's (NBA) 66th Annual General Conference. In a video posted on August 28, 2026, VDM countered Falana's remarks, which suggested that speakers at NBA conferences should possess relevant expertise.

Falana expressed concerns during a Channels interview on August 27, emphasizing the importance of technical backgrounds in discussions on national security. VDM argued that his extensive experience documenting insecurity in Nigeria offered a unique perspective that traditional experts might lack.

He characterized the backlash against his presence as "classism," asserting that the elite's discomfort with his background was a significant factor. VDM aimed to represent the voices of ordinary Nigerians who are often excluded from such discussions, emphasizing that security issues affect millions daily.

He admitted he did not foresee the intensity of Falana's criticism.
