Kano Governor Affirms Red Cap Symbol Remains for Now

The Kano Governor has addressed supporters, stating that it is not yet time to remove the red cap, which is a renowned symbol of the Kwankwasiyya movement. This statement comes amidst growing speculation about the governor's political identity, especially as he was seen wearing dark blue camouflage with Tinubu's insignia in Yola, Adamawa State.

His spokesperson, Sanusi Batur, clarified on Tuesday that there has been no direct order to drop the red cap and urged supporters to be patient, as everything will be clarified in due time. The red cap has long been associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement, led by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, although the current governor has distanced himself from the inner circle of Kwankwasiyya while retaining the cap as part of his political identity.

Analysts note that the cap has evolved beyond factional politics to become a broader cultural emblem in Kano.
