ITU and W.TEC Promote Girls in ICT on International Day

On International Girls in ICT Day, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Women Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) held an event in Lagos, Nigeria, to promote female representation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. The theme for this year was "AI: Develop Girls to Shape the Digital Future." Doreen Bogdan-Martin, the ITU Secretary-General, stressed the importance of girls' representation in STEM education, noting that women currently make up only 35% of STEM graduates globally.

Bolanle Olumekor, representing W.TEC, addressed female students from various schools, while Oracle representative Beker Amasoma spoke on leveraging technology for career advancement. Lateef Olarenwaju advised female students to focus on their studies and utilize technology for personal and professional growth.

The event aimed to inspire and empower girls to pursue careers in technology and leadership.
