Girls in ICT Day Promotes Gender Equality in Technology

The International Girls in ICT Day, organized by eBusiness Life Communication Limited, took place under the theme ‘AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future’. The event aimed to inspire, mentor, and empower young girls to engage in the digital economy and address gender disparity in ICT careers.

Mrs. Ufuoma Emuophedaro, the convener and Chief Executive Officer of eBusiness Life Communication Limited, highlighted the transformative potential of women and girls in technology.

She stressed the urgent need to dismantle barriers that limit female participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Emuophedaro pointed out the widening global ICT skills gap and asserted that empowering girls with digital skills is essential for socio-economic development and inclusive growth.

She stated that the annual celebration has become a significant platform for encouraging young girls to pursue careers in technology. Emuophedaro called for equal access to leadership training, scholarships, and career development opportunities for women and girls while addressing gender bias and societal stereotypes.
