JAMB to Oversee HND Admissions in Nigerian Polytechnics

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) announced that all Higher National Diploma (HND) admissions in polytechnics and related institutions will now be managed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). This decision, communicated in a circular dated September 9, 2026, and signed by NBTE Executive Secretary Prof Idris Bugaje, follows a meeting involving the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and key stakeholders.

The aim is to centralize the admission process and eliminate illegal admissions that could hinder students' mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) after completing their HND programs. JAMB's Head of Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed compliance with the directive.

The circular also states that part-time admissions will be capped at 50% of each institution's full-time quota. Additionally, NCE holders must obtain a valid ND before being admitted to HND programs through JAMB.
