JMA Issues Typhoon Dujuan Warning as Heavy Rain Hits Tokyo

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued a warning regarding Typhoon Dujuan, which was forecasted to approach the Tokyo metropolitan area. Heavy rainfall has already impacted the Izu Islands and parts of Japan’s Pacific coast, with some areas experiencing over 300 mm (12 inches) of rain.
This led to the issuance of the highest level landslide emergency warning for Oshima, located about 110 km (68 miles) south of Tokyo. The JMA indicated that rainfall could intensify as the typhoon nears the Kanto region, which includes Tokyo and surrounding prefectures.
Due to the approaching storm, the equestrian eventing competition at the Asian Games in Aichi Prefecture was postponed until Tuesday. Additionally, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's departure for New York to attend the U.N.
General Assembly was delayed by four hours, with her new departure time set for 11 p.m. JST (1500 GMT).
Authorities warned of the risk of flash floods and other rain-related disasters due to potential linear rain bands forming over Kanto and central Japan.
