NiMet Warns of Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms in Nigeria

On September 7, 2023, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) warned Nigerians to prepare for widespread thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall expected from September 7 to September 9. The agency's weather outlook indicated that the three-day period would feature cloudy skies, thunderstorms, and varying degrees of rainfall across northern, North-Central, and southern Nigeria.

NiMet advised residents and motorists to take precautions, as some thunderstorms could bring strong winds capable of downing tree branches and loose objects. Specific forecasts included thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in Adamawa, Kebbi, and Taraba on Monday morning, and similar conditions in the North-Central region affecting the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, and Benue states.

The southern region was expected to experience light rainfall in areas like Ebonyi, Edo, and Delta. NiMet also predicted more intense rainfall on Wednesday, with thunderstorms expected across various states, including Kaduna, Katsina, and Kano.
